Motorized Roller Blinds with smart features are taking over, we’re here to help!

The demand for “smart” features and automation in homes is on the rise, and homeowners now have higher expectations regarding these features. Motorized blinds and other smart home devices are becoming increasingly prevalent and are often anticipated by homeowners. Several factors contribute to this growing demand:

1. The millennial generation, having grown up with technology as an integral part of their lives, naturally expect and embrace smart features. Using apps and incorporating technology into everyday activities is second nature to them, given their familiarity with smartphones.

2. In the window covering industry, the availability of products that operate on batteries or rechargeable motors has made it more affordable to start with a single motorized blind on a hard-to-reach window and gradually expand the use of motorized window treatments throughout the entire home.

3. The advancement of smartphones and associated technologies has facilitated the development of apps that work with a wider range of affordable products. This shift has made automation and smart home devices accessible to a broader consumer base beyond just luxury customers.

USA Roller Blinds has been at the forefront of the home automation movement, offering motorized products in partnership with brands like Somfy. Somfy’s commitment to innovation is evident in their rich history. In 1989, Somfy further enhanced their motors by integrating radio technology, enabling the control of multiple products with a single remote.

Continuing their pursuit of innovation, by 2018, Somfy expanded their partnerships to integrate with temperature controls, lighting systems, music devices, and virtual assistants, offering a comprehensive connected home experience. Their latest offering, the Tahoma Gateway launched in 2021, simplifies the process of transforming your home into a fully connected smart home.

So, what distinguishes a connected home from a smart home?

In a connected home, devices are linked to the internet, allowing them to exchange information. These internet-connected devices can send and receive data, respond to voice commands, and be controlled remotely using dedicated apps.

Smart homes encompass a variety of intelligent devices such as smart thermostats, doorbells, locks, and appliances. Although these devices can connect to the internet individually, without a central hub or voice assistant, they lack coordination and integration with other smart home devices.

By connecting these devices to the internet through a hub or voice assistant, homeowners can utilize apps to create customized scenes. For instance, a simple command to Alexa, such as “Turn on goodnight,” can simultaneously turn off lights and close window blinds.

Moreover, connecting these devices via a hub or voice assistant empowers homeowners to control their shades from anywhere, ensuring safety, security, and the illusion of an occupied home. It also enhances comfort, saves energy costs, and safeguards furniture and flooring from the detrimental effects of UV rays.

The future has arrived, and homes are becoming increasingly innovative, intelligent, and tailored to our lifestyles. Isn’t it time to transform your home into a haven of comfort, energy efficiency, safety, and security through motorized window treatments and home automation?

The process doesn’t have to be overwhelming. At USA Roller Blinds, our knowledgeable design consultants specialize in the latest smart home technology. We offer a diverse range of window treatments that cater to your privacy and light control preferences, while adding value and style to your home.

If you’re considering installing Motorized Roller Blinds, Shades or Drapes, here are some important things to know:

Convenience and Control: Motorized roller blinds offer the convenience of effortless operation with the touch of a button or through automated controls. You can easily raise, lower, or adjust the blinds to your desired position without the need for manual intervention. Some motorized roller blinds can be controlled remotely through smartphones or home automation systems, allowing you to manage them even when you’re away from home.

Installation and Power Source: Motorized roller blinds require professional installation. The blinds need to be properly wired and connected to a power source, which may involve hiring an electrician or a specialized installer. Consider the location of power outlets and ensure they are easily accessible for the installation process.

Types of Motors: Motorized roller blinds come with different types of motors, including battery-powered motors and hardwired motors. Battery-powered motors offer flexibility in terms of installation and can be a good option if wiring is not feasible. Hardwired motors require a direct power connection and may be more suitable for new construction or renovations.

Control Options: Determine the control options you prefer for your motorized roller blinds. They can be operated through handheld remotes, wall-mounted keypads, wireless wall switches, or integrated into smart home systems for voice control or app-based control. Choose a control option that aligns with your lifestyle and preferences.

Programming and Automation: Motorized roller blinds often come with programming capabilities, allowing you to set schedules for automatic operation. You can program the blinds to open or close at specific times of the day, providing energy efficiency and enhancing privacy. Additionally, some motorized roller blinds can be integrated with light sensors or smart home systems to automate their operation based on sunlight or other triggers.

Compatibility and Integration: If you already have a smart home system or home automation setup, ensure that the motorized roller blinds you choose are compatible with the system. This allows seamless integration and centralized control of all connected devices in your home.

Safety Features: Motorized roller blinds typically come with built-in safety features, such as obstruction sensors. These sensors detect objects or obstructions in the path of the blinds and automatically stop and reverse the movement to prevent accidents or damage.

Maintenance and Servicing: Motorized roller blinds generally require minimal maintenance; you just need to charge the motors and change batteries. However, it’s important to follow the our guidelines for cleaning and care to ensure optimal performance. If any issues arise, contact us for servicing or repairs.

installation fitting

Installation

  • The first thing in this installation is to place the electric roller blind motor into the corresponding ends of the brackets and then put it into the position where you’d like to fix it in your window (face fixing or top fixing).

  • After you’ve done this, you’ll need to mark the positions of two holes per bracket for fixing/drilling. We always make sure that the brackets are well secured, in the position where the marks were made, then we mount the brackets in place using screws.

  • We hold the blinds to the brackets, with the material dangling from the back of the blinds and the motor head aerial dangling vertically down (pointing towards the ground) and we secure the idle end (opposite the motor end) into place by locating the ‘+’ shaped plunger into the ‘+’ shaped segment of the bracket.

  • We ensure that we line it up accurately, the plunger should pop into the bracket and secure in place easily. Then we angle the motor head side into place and slide the prongs of the motor head plate into the bracket. We clip the brackets of the battery and remote handset. Therefore, it’s up to you whether you want to fit it somewhere discrete, behind or above the blind.
